How do I become a volunteer?

Volunteers of Big Brothers and Big Sisters come from all socio-economic, racial, cultural and religious backgrounds.  Their personal backgrounds, interests, aptitude and strengths vary greatly.

Who is eligible to be a Big Brother or Big Sister?

To volunteer to become a Big Brother or Big Sister, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older (High school juniors and seniors are eligible to participate in School-Based mentoring program)

  • Have a valid driver’s license

  • Be in good general health

  • Have a stable lifestyle

  • Exhibit emotional maturity and responsible judgment

  • Be motivated and committed to volunteer

The next step is to go through an orientation of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. You will receive training and participate in an interview.  The case manager will do an evaluation based on your application and interview.  The final recommendation is made by the executive director.  If you are selected to participate in the program, the agency will work to match you with a Little so that you can begin to make a difference in the life of that child.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please fill out the Volunteer Application or contact us via phone at 304.983.2823 ext 104, or E-Mail Us , or stop by our office located in Morgantown.
