NIP Credits Now Available
The Neighborhood Investment Program (NIP) was established by the
West Virginia Legislature in 1996 to increase charitable giving
to local non-profit organizations. The program allows 501(c)3
designated charitable organizations to apply for tax credit
vouchers. These organizations then distribute the vouchers to
businesses and individuals who contribute to the organizations.
By donating to approved NIP organizations, contributors can
support their communities and earn credits to reduce certain
West Virginia taxes. The NIP Credits are awarded to eligible
non-profit organizations through a grant process.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Central WV has been awarded
$2,535.00 in NIP Credits. Credits are available to qualified to
donations as long as they last.
Eligible Donations:
Contributions accepted by Big Brothers Big Sisters of
NCWV can be in the form of cash, and stock. The minimum eligible
donation is $500.
What are the limitations of the Credits?:
There are three primary limitations of the use of the tax
credits:
1. The amount of credit allowable must be taken within a
five-year period, beginning with the tax year in which the
donation is made.
2. A donor may receive no more than $100,000 annually in NIP tax
credits
3. A donor cannot use NIP tax credit to reduce total tax
liability on any one tax by more than 50 percent annually.
Reducing Your Tax Liability:
Businesses and individuals who contribute to NIP
organizations are eligible to receive up to 50 percent of the
contributed amount (500/250, 1000/500) in the form of state tax
credits. Donors may use the credits to reduce liability for the
following West Virginia taxes:
-
Corporate Net Income Tax
-
Business Franchise Tax
-
Personal Income Tax
